Puppy Routine

Something just happened — your puppy woke up, finished a meal, had a drink. This works out how long you have, and it keeps counting while you read.

Why waking is the sharpest signal

A puppy that has just woken up has a full bladder and no reason to wait, and the gap is short enough — around ten minutes — that it is worth going outside before you do anything else. Meals run longer at roughly twenty-five minutes, a drink about twenty, hard play about fifteen. Those four numbers cover most of what happens in a day.

What the clock cannot tell you

Every figure here is an average across puppies. Your dog's own gap between waking and going might be six minutes or eighteen, and the difference decides whether your week has accidents in it. Watching what actually follows waking and eating, for a week or two, is the only way to find out — and it is the one thing a web page cannot do for you.
