Puppy sleep schedule calculator
Puppies sleep a lot. Somewhere around 18 to 20 hours a day is common when they are young, and an overtired puppy bites, zooms and has accidents. This lays your day out as short awake windows with naps in between.
How the awake windows are worked out
The awake window is about thirty minutes for every month of age: roughly an hour at eight weeks, closer to two hours by four months. It is the same figure the schedule maker uses for routine potty trips, so the two never disagree. Each window starts with a trip outside, because waking is the strongest potty trigger there is.
Nap length is a setting rather than a rule. Puppies vary widely, from half an hour to two hours or more. If yours naps longer, leave them to it.
Puppy Routine is not veterinary advice, and neither is this page. Anything about your puppy's health or a behaviour that worries you is a conversation with a veterinarian or a qualified, reward-based behaviour professional.
